Thank you for your interest in The East Alabama Gem & Mineral Society (EAGMS). Our mission is to promote interest and education in geology, mineralogy, lapidary arts, and related subjects through programs, field trips, and the exchange of knowledge among members. Above all, we are a community who enjoys learning together about the natural world. Whether you are a beginner, a lifelong collector, or simply curious about rocks and minerals, EAGMS offers opportunities to learn, explore, and enjoy the hobby together.
We generally meet once per month. A typical club meeting includes a welcome and introduction of guests and new members, a raffle for door prizes (which may include agate slabs, geodes, mineral specimens, fossils, petrified wood, and other treasures), a short business meeting, and a featured program, where members and guests present talks on a wide range of topics. Recent examples include new mineral discoveries, lapidary courses, dig sites visited, Alabama’s state fossil, fluorescent minerals, gems of the Bible, and the culture of pearls. Afterward, we adjourn for a wonderful potluck dinner, with delicious dishes prepared by members and plenty of time for stories, conversation, and fellowship.
Visitors and prospective members are always welcome! Come join us at a meeting and share in the enjoyment of gems, rocks, minerals, and the stories they tell.

The East Alabama Gem & Mineral Society is a member of the American Federation of Mineral Societies and the Southeastern Federation of Mineralogical Societies.
