The East Alabama Gem & Mineral Society (EAGMS) is located in Opelika, Alabama. EAGMS is dedicated to stimulating interest in earth sciences and supporting the education of geology, mineralogy, lapidary arts, and related subjects.
The Society meets at the Fellowship Hall of Trinity Methodist Church at 800 2nd Ave., Opelika, at 6 pm on the 4th Tuesday of every month except November and December, which are the 3rd Tuesday of those months.
A typical club meeting opens with a welcome and introduction of guests and new members, followed by recognition of members’ birthdays and anniversaries. Next there is a raffle for door prizes that include agate slabs, geodes, mineral specimens, fossils, petrified wood, etc. Then a short business meeting follows with the reading of the previous meeting’s minutes, the current Treasurer’s report, and a discussion of old and new business (like field trips, upcoming shows, activities at the Rock Shop, etc.). The meeting then moves to the Program where members present talks on various topics such as (recently) new minerals, lapidary courses taken, dig sites visited, Alabama’s State Fossil, fluorescent minerals, gems of the Bible, and the culture of pearls. After the Program we adjourn for a wonderful potluck dinner with delicious savory dishes and desserts prepared by members, with time for stories, commentary, and general fellowship. We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming meeting!

The East Alabama Gem & Mineral Society is a member of the American Federation of Mineral Societies and the Southeastern Federation of Mineralogical Societies.
